Yesterday she received her last Chemotherapy treatment, and today she is getting her last Chemo booster shot.
It has been a rough road for her. I cannot imagine what it feels like to hear the word “cancer” from a doctor. I cannot imagine what it is like to have a body part removed, especially one that figures so prominently with one’s personality and sexuality. I cannot imagine what sitting through Chemo treatments is like, or how it feels to suffer through their side effects, such as the loss of hair, again something that prominently figures with a person’s self image and sexuality.
She has been a tough soldier and worked her way through the process, and today she celebrates having won a major battle. There is still more ahead, as she now faces radiation therapy. But she is strong and doing well. She has beaten down the Red Devil, the nickname that nurses give the first rounds of Chemo therapy. She is on her way to returning to a more normal life.
Good job. Keep fighting.
