I am working on the On a Sphere’s Edge Audio Book.
Reading one’s own book, reading it aloud, is an interesting experience. Reading it aloud with the intent of having others listen to that reading is a challenging experience.
I’m not an actor. Reading aloud in this fashion requires putting emotions into almost every word. Beyond emoting, there are characters, which means character voices. The protagonist in On a Sphere’s Edge is a woman. How on Earth does a male, a fairly deep voiced male at that, read a powerful woman’s dialog without sounding all squeaky and comical? I’m doing my best to handle it. I can’t be asked to do more than that.
The recording is coming along nicely. All surrounding texts: opening credits, Dedication, Preface, Prologue, and Afterword, have been recorded. I tucked Chapters 1 and 2 to bed last night. Seven more chapters to go.
I believe the audio recording, including some sound effects and small musical accompaniments, will be complete in one week, two weeks at the most. Then it is off to the distributor. As such, I hope to have the Audio Book available within three weeks’ time.
Happy listening.
