In preparing for the coming On a Sphere’s Edge audio book, which means some promotion and advertising, I created a website specifically for the book. The website is here: onaspheresedge.com.
There is an EXCLUSIVE SAMPLE of the audio book on the website. This sample will NOT be posted on YouTube, or on the audio book’s sales page, or anywhere else for that matter. After all, that is what makes its exclusive. The sample is several entertaining and fun minutes from the over 6 hour work.
The website is pretty straightforward, advertising the book, audio book and merchandise, and providing a common place for those interested in the story and its characters to gather.
One of the things I enjoyed doing was bringing some life into a piece of the story. The characters in the story use sophisticated devices that we are all familiar with, smart phones, that they call “Cells,” (shortened cell phone). But beyond that ordinary device, the Cells have a device called a “Cell Link.”
The Cell Link is never described in the story, though it has been described in a possible sequel that I began. The Cell Link looks like a small wire. It is equipped with nano technology that allows it to situate itself around the wearer’s neck, much like a close fitting necklace. It extends small aural buds behind the ear flaps. It is equipped with a host of micro-sized gadgets. The aural buds transduce sound to the wearer without making the sound publicly audible.
The Cell Link has a micro-sized projector that can be used for a host of things. It can project any form of visual information transmitted to it from the wearer’s Cell. Instead of looking at a smart-phone screen, the wearer can have the information projected onto a wall or sheet of paper, or their hand.
The Cell Link can also sense visual information. If the wearer is having the Link project information, the Cell Link follows the wearer’s movements, allowing them to scroll or move or zoom the information that the Cell Link projects.
Instead of wearing a watch, raise your arm, palm down, and the link projects the time on your wrist. Hold your palm out and it projects a digit pad on your fingers and an options list on your palm. Your cell sits in your pocket, hardly needing to be touched, thanks to the Cell Link.
It was fun to create the interactive image of one of the character’s hands displaying their Cell Link. Check out the website, onaspheresedge.com, and the eBook, and get ready to order your copy of the audio book when it is released (sometime within the next two weeks).
