The Wide World Outside the Gated Community

In two weeks or so, my membership on the other blog website will expire and I will close that account. On one hand it will feel good to not pay that bill and not have to worry about that space. But on the other hand it will be sad knowing that I will probably not communicate with most of those people again.

It isn’t that I couldn’t communicate with them. After all, this is the world wide web. But within that world wideness there seem to be gated communities, and those gates seem to be as much in the mind as anywhere else.

Since I made the decision to open my blog up to the world and began building this site I have visited that other blog less and less. A few of the blogger buddies that I made on that site have visited this blog, and I thank them for that. I am thankful for anyone who takes the time to read and comment on what I put forward.

The majority of those on that site want to stay solely within that gated community. I understand it. A one stop shop and blog. Why take the time to visit other blogs out in the cyber world? Cruise for a partner, write a post about cruising for a partner, read blogs about cruising for partners, and then close your laptop. No need to examine what else might be out there. Well, do some on-line shopping or pay a bill. For sharing, hit Facebook and then the XXX site and be done. But it makes sense.

I will miss those folk though. I suppose I could maintain my account on the free level and visit some of those blogs. But the gate that keeps them in also keeps me out. I do not need, nor want all the surroundings. The large numbers of blog posts lamenting loneliness, surrounded by explicit photos. To me it felt like pouring salt on the wound.

I have noticed when I do visit the site, as infrequently as that is, they seem to be rolling along like normal. I am just one in a never-ending line of people that come and go. Regardless, I will miss those blogger buddies that decide to stay within that realm and not visit the world wide web. So many are clever and witty. I will miss some of their posts. I will miss their comments to my posts, and the ability to comment on theirs. But that is what happens when you walk out of a gated community into the web wide world.
