Here we are in the midst of Christmas time. A time of good tidings, peace on Earth and good will toward all people. And yet we are in the middle of a tussle over gun control and violent crime. What a shame.
It leaves a person like me, a blogger, in a quandary. Do you publish pleasant Christmas stories and ignore the issues at hand or do you publish your opinions and seem to push the Christmas spirit aside?
It is a tricky tightrope to walk. I am taking the approach of doing both, one after the other. A rant, a pleasant tale, a rant, another pleasant tale. As Christmas gets closer I may set the rants aside, for the moment. But rest assured, they will be back.
It is a shame that the peace and loving quality of Christmas lasts for such a short time. Some of us try to carry it every day. But the reality of everyday life will push its way forward. Christmas time is a special time. It isn’t everyday life. It is a unique anomaly that forces the entire human race to take a step back from their petty self-centered concerns. It is a limited time only sale of goodness. Eventually that time expires and the ugly face of the human race rises up again.
I do have faith in humanity. I do believe, in time, we will rise to become the peaceful, loving creatures we can be. To that end, when this special time of Christmas slips away from us, it is important for us to keep alive the conversations that guide us toward the lofty goals of peace on Earth and good will toward all people.
