Please Mister Postman

Mailbox:| I mailed a hard copy of “On a Sphere’s Edge” to EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing, in Alberta, Canada. Yikes.

I did not realize that you had to fill out a customs form for mailing paper, nor did I realize how expensive the cheapest option for mailing to Canada would be. The original plan had been to include return postage. However, I was informed that it would be more expensive for the manuscript to be mailed from Canada to the US, and it would not be possible to determine what that postage would be.

So, I sent the manuscript off without any return postage. I would assume that if the publisher wants the work, they will pay for a stamp to contact me. If they don’t want it, I guess they will toss it. Frankly, it was cheaper to buy the paper and print all 281 pages than to mail it, so having them toss it would actually be a savings.

Later in the week I will look for another publisher to submit to. For a while, I will try to concentrate on US publishers, just to reduce the hassle.
